I need to carve this into my brain.
It’s a beautiful film, and one of the years best.
The plot is as confusing as Primer and near impossible to sum up without sounding confusing. It’s not one genre but several, each in its own act.
The official synopsis is: A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism.
The films drifts from Crime, thriller, a beautiful romance, sci-fi, the quest for the perfect sound, and is also has Walden as an important plot point.
Its a double helix of a film.
I do not want to give to much away than I already have, so go see it. If it not playing near you, it will be online for $20 May 7 on iTunes and it’s own site
Do it. You need it after this week.
One of my classmates is submitting her script to the San Jose State film department for the feature film class and she’s having a indie a go-go fund to help.
It’s a really good script and I would love to see it be made. It is about a teenager who is struggling to take care of her siblings, when their drug addicted mother is in prison , all while battling her own addiction. It gives a voice to those affected by substance addiction and the hardships that they face.
It’s same program as the film I worked on. Each year the deptment chooses a script from a student submission to be made in to a student directed, student acted, and student crewed film. One of the requirements is that she needs funding to back the project. It will be spent on equipment, sets, transportation, food, props, costumes, and other things.
If it does not get picked for the department’s program, she hopes to make it regardless.
Give if you can every bit helps.
Please let others know about this fundraising, this is the only undergrad in the states that does something like this.
If you have any questions let me know and I’ll pass it on to the writer/director.
Re-blogging my self for the night crew on here.

And I gave my honest answer:
I would be happy being crew. Ya I have a desire to be a director, but I’d be happy being an AD, PA, camera assistant or any thing.
I love the feeling of being on set, it’s a drug that gives the best high in the world.
I really miss that feeling, and working on a project.
I need that.
The Criterion Collection is having a 50% off sale until noon tomorrow.
This is the filmmakers dvd company. Seriously.
Don’t pass up the chance to snag one, especially since they are going lower than Amazon’s prices.

McCarthy: Take a wild guess on whats that about.

Remember that short film I made last semester? So, after sitting on it over the summer I decided to open it up to cut it down for grad school apps. Unfortunately, due to my computer crisis over the summer, and some poor labeling on my part, most of the clips have been disconnected, and the already edited sequence unplayable. Even when I try to reconnect the files, it still won’t play/ can’t find it. Normally I save a copy of all the raw camera footage , but in this case I could not find the footage from the rolls I needed. That is until I took a harder look at the seemingly empty folder. Somehow the folder with all the video files is showing up as a massive AVCHD file which I discovered only after double clicking on it and selecting “Show Package contents”. I found the seemingly missing raw footage there, and can be imported to FCP7,so I just have to re-synch the audio and edit it. Which isn’t all that bad, but the AVCHD thing is still puzzling, as it only happen to those two folders and none other with the same content/ video file.
I did have to move the FCP files around, because I had to manually back up and restore my user data after my computer was wiped. The problem being that what ever fracked up my computer over the summer made Time Machine backups unviable. The kicker is that its taken me a week to figure all this out and its due, this friday.
But hey, whats filmmaking with out a SNAFU
